Combat Mechanics: Parry & Smite

Master Soulframe combat: parry windows, Nightfold, Smite finishers, and ghost enemy rules in Preludes 15.

Combat Loop Overview

Soulframe combat centers on readable enemy telegraphs, timed parries, Nightfold activation, and Smite finishers after successful parry chains. Unlike horde shooters, stamina and timing discipline gate damage more than raw gear — though Virtues and Totems amplify execution rewards.

Preludes 15 standardized ghost enemy parry windows after community feedback. Training dummies now include ethereal variants in Midrath hub.

Parry Fundamentals

Parry replaces passive blocking for high-skill rewards. Input parry as telegraph flashes — not on contact. Failed parries leave you vulnerable longer than block in older builds. Settings telegraph contrast helps ghost attacks blend less into environments.

Each weapon family adjusts parry recovery frames — test after weapon swaps in training yard.

Nightfold and Ghost Enemies

Nightfold toggles a combat state boosting spectral damage and enabling hits against ghost-type foes immune to normal strikes. Gods & Ghosts content assumes Nightfold literacy — delay activation and you whiff entire phases in Dermak Undercity.

Nightfold drains resources over time; Courage and Spirit Virtues extend uptime differently per Pact.

Smite Finishers

Successful parry chains prompt Smite — high damage executions with cinematic i-frames when confirmed. Tethren builds stack Smite modifiers via Totems and Courage breakpoints. Smite confirms with interact key default E on keyboard.

Bosses like Torment Stag gate phase transitions on Smite damage during stagger windows — learn patterns rather than spamming Nightfold.
